The Weekly Edit

This week we give you some tips on how to cosy up your outdoor area and showcase our favourite Autumn essentials for your home.

We also have on a show a delicious Autumn pasta recipe by Half-Baked Harvest.

1. Outdoor Oasis

As the temperatures drop and the crispness of autumn sets in, transforming your outdoor area into a cosy retreat is both achievable and inviting.

Start by incorporating layers of warmth through soft blankets, plush cushions, and textured throws on your outdoor furniture. Introduce a focal point such as a fire pit or outdoor heater to provide comforting warmth and create a gathering spot for family and friends. This could be in the form of a fireplace, fire-pit, or pizza oven.

Enhance the ambiance with soft lighting, such as string lights or lanterns, to add a warm glow to the space. Embrace the season by decorating with seasonal accents like and autumn foliage to infuse your outdoor area with a touch of seasonal charm.

2. Autumn Essentials

As autumn sweeps in with its enchanting colours and brisk air, outfitting your home with essential decor pieces becomes paramount.

Begin by anchoring your space with a luxurious, cosy throw adding warmth and texture to any room. Embrace the spirit of the season with an autumn branch and vase setup, showcasing nature's bounty and infusing your home with rustic elegance. Introduce an inviting occasional chair, adorned with soft cushions and a warm throw, creating a cosy nook perfect for cuddling up with a book or enjoying a hot cup of tea on chilly evenings.

Complete your autumn sanctuary with a collection of decorative pillows in rich, autumnal hues, adding pops of colour and comfort to your living space.

 3. Warming Meals

Embracing the cosy ambiance of the kitchen, slow cooker and Dutch oven recipes become staples, infusing homes with tantalising aromas. From succulent stews bubbling away in the Dutch oven to rich, flavourful pastas simmering in the slow cooker, these dishes offer a respite from the chill outside.

Soups laden with seasonal vegetables and aromatic herbs provide nourishment and comfort, while the simplicity of one-pot meals eases the burden of clean-up. Whether it's the simplicity of a classic beef stew or the complexity of a slow-simmered Bolognese sauce, cooking in cooler months becomes an art form, blending flavours and textures to create meals that soothe and satisfy.

Loving for 2024

I am seeing a lot of really dark oak furniture pieces around and although I usually warm to the lighter shades I am really loving the chocolate brown tones.

Design Tip

When using dark furniture in a space try and balance it with lighter elements to prevent the room from feeling too heavy. Light coloured throws, rugs, cushions or artwork can provide this contrast.

Tips For April

Invest in a slow cooker or Dutch oven for all those warming recipes ahead. Slow cooker meals are really easy to prepare in advance which keeps life in cooler climates a little easier! KitCo and Biroix have really fun colourful dutch ovens that are worth taking a look!
