Make An Entrance: 5 Key Steps To Styling Your Entryway

Apr 29, 2022

First impressions count!

The entrance sets the tone for the rest of your home - it’s the perfect place for being brave and bold with your decorating choices and experimenting with clever storage and furniture ideas.  It doesn't matter if your entrance is small or large, styling your entryway space is all about merging form with function.  After years of working with clients designing homes and styling entryways, we are so excited to share our tips and inspiration to create your very own perfect 'entrance'.

01. THE ANCHOR

Set the tone with a statement anchor piece to give your entrance a little substance and increase function.  A console, hall table or side table will offer ample storage and styling place for your decor pieces and family heirlooms.

02. WOVEN WELCOMING

Bring warmth and texture to your space with a floor rug.  A rug will ground the entrance and define the space, giving your guests (and yourselves) that red-carpet welcome every time you step in the door.  Not only do rugs looks visually pleasing, they act as protection for your hardwood floor or carpet in this particularly high traffic area.

03. LIGHT THE STAGE

An entryway without statement lighting is a huge opportunity missed.  With modern chandeliers, pendants and sconces, you have the potential to wow your guests as soon as they walk in.  We love adding a statement light to draw the eye up in an entryway or layering lamps on a console to create a cosy, inviting atmosphere.

04. IN FOCUS

It's incredibly important to balance your space with a focal point.  Hanging or leaning a large piece of wall decor above your anchor table draws the eye in to create a balanced focal point.  If your space is smaller, we love utilising mirrors to make a space feel larger.

05. THE DESIGNER TOUCH

Last but not least - our favourite part - the finishing touches.  Bring your final entryway look to life with functional storage pieces like textural baskets for shoes and throws, small trays or bowls for keys, and thoughtful decorative details like sculptures, candles, stacked books, a little greenery, and frames to fill out any gaps.  It's important to consider the colour, line, texture, and scale of decorative elements and incorporate a variety to give your entryway that "wow" factor.
