A Curtain Expert's Top Tips

If you have ever wanted to know what the curtain professionals would put in their own homes for window furnishings, then this guide if for you!

Our incredible curtain consultant Nicky is sharing her insider tips for selecting the best window solutions for your home. Don't miss Nicky's tips if you are looking to upgrade your curtains in the near future or embarking on the build or renovation journey!

  1. Motorise

Early planning is essential especially for new builds. I would definitely incorporate recessed tracks and blinds hidden in the ceiling for a clean and minimal look. Motorised blinds can be battery operated or added into the electrical systems. Most of my clients are turning to motorised blinds now. Why wouldn't you??

2:  Seek Advice

Window treatments are a considerable cost within the home, so they are not something you want to make a mistake on. Getting the right information and help will save you a costly mistake.

3: Custom Made

Custom made curtains provide that fully finished look to your home, where every detail has been considered. I would only do customised curtains for an elevated look that compliments the aesthetic of my home.

4: Quality Fabric

Selecting high quality fabrics for your curtains and blinds will create an exquisite backdrop for your interior. This one feature will greatly contribute to your final look and feel of your home and should not be overlooked. You can find quality fabrics at every price point if you know what to look for (psst I can help!)

5: Consider the Sun

Polyester fabric options don't have to be second best and can in fact be the preferred option for a sunny space. There are many durable and natural-look polyester fabric options and recycled fabrics which I would use in a room flooded with direct sunlight. Polyester is extremely durable.

6: Double Tracks

Double tracks are a great option for sunny living areas, allowing you the best of both worlds - a sheer to maintain views and privacy during the day, and heavy drapes to give insulation at night, creating a warm and cosy home.

7: No Shorties

Think of a man, or a women in a beautiful, tailored suit... Now think of the image if the pants were an inch too short!!! It just looks wrong. Floor to ceiling curtains are far better for closing light gaps, insulation and overall aesthetics.

8: Invest

A common mistake for those building a new home is to overlook the window treatments until the house is nearly complete, with minimal budget left. Window Treatments are a really good investment, and I would factor those decisions in early.

9: Blinds

Blinds come in a huge array of colours and textures and provide not only sunshade but also block-out. They are quick to turnaround and budget friendly. I would do beautiful blinds if I was on a tight budget!

10. Icing on the Cake

There are an array of amazing trims and finishes which can be added for an elevated and personalised look. I would have a little fun with trims, fringing and tie backs.
