The Weekly Edit

It's been a while. A long while, actually.

If you've wondered where I've been — why the studio went quiet, why the Weekly Edits stopped, why I vanished from here — I want to tell you honestly. A few months ago I discovered that my husband has been having an affair.

Thirty years together. Four children. A whole life built side by side, since I was nineteen. And then — that.

I'm not going to pretend it's been anything other than awful. It has been. I've been holding my kids, holding myself, picking up the pieces of a family I thought was solid. Social media, understandably, fell right off the list.

But I'm ready to come back now. Not because the hard part is over — it isn't — but because hiding isn't helping. And because I know I'm not the only woman sitting in this boat. The number of you I've quietly heard from who've lived through exactly this… it's genuinely staggering. And heartbreaking.

I see you.

1. The Sanctuary Of Home

Here's something I've learned the hard way these last few months: when everything falls apart, home becomes everything.

We've needed somewhere to retreat. Somewhere to feel safe. Somewhere to grieve without an audience, to process without performing, to just be — together, messy, and held.

Home did that for us.

The irony isn't lost on me. I've spent ten years helping other people create sanctuaries. I just never expected to need one quite so urgently myself.

But it's reminded me — viscerally — why this work matters. Curtains and cushions and the right light aren't frivolous. They're the soft edges of a life. They're what makes a house the place you crawl back to when the world breaks your heart.

2. Community & Connection

And then there's the people.

The friends who turned up with food when we couldn't face cooking. The family who wrapped around us. The texts that just said "I'm here" and expected nothing back.

When crisis hits, your community intersects with your home in the most beautiful, necessary way. My lounge became the place where people brought lasagna and cried with me, then laughed about something ridiculous an hour later. That's what homes are for.

If you're in a hard season right now — whatever that looks like — lean on your people. Let them in. You don't have to hold it all yourself.

 3. The 50 At 50 Project

Which brings me to something I'm starting.

On the 3rd of September, I turn 50. And I'll be honest — a few months ago I thought I'd be marking it very differently. With him. With the life I thought I had.

Instead, I'm using it as a beginning.

The 50 at 50 Project is fifty experiences in my fiftieth year — a commitment to living a fun, varied, interesting life as I figure out who Katy actually is. I've been with Edward since I was nineteen. I've never been a grown woman on my own. So I'm finding out.

Some of it will be brave. Some of it will be silly. Some of it will probably be a disaster. All of it will be real.

I'd love for you to come along. You'll find me at @the50at50project — my journey starts there.

4. Katy's Mini Edit

What's Getting Me Through This Week...

๐Ÿ•ฏ Candlelight by 7pm — softness matters right now

๐Ÿ“– The Giver Of Stars by Jojo Moyes — escapism counts as self-care

๐Ÿฒ A simple soup — when eating feels impossible, soup always works

๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ A walk with no destination — moving the body moves the mind

๐ŸŽถ One song on repeat — currently ‘The Bitch Is Back’ (it feels like a promise to my future -self!)

Small things. But small things are holding me up.

What's Next...

So that's where I am. Back here, a bit wobbly, but back.

The Weekly Edit is returning — you'll hear from me every Sunday again. The studio is busy (turns out throwing yourself into work is a decent coping strategy). And there's a new home on the horizon for us — a fresh start I can't wait to share and build with you.

If you want to follow the next chapter, come find me at @the50at50project.

And if you've ever been where I am now — or you're there right now — know that you're not alone. ๐Ÿ’›

Reply and tell me one thing getting you through your week. I read every single comment.
