Kitchen & Dining Nook | Penberley Project Reveal

Kitchen & Dining Nook

When you step into the light-filled kitchen area of the Penberley project your eye is drawn to the subtle details and textural accents that bring this space to life.  From the beautifully constructed and detailed ceiling to the pop of colour with the wallpaper in the scullery, each element makes this custom new-build kitchen feel intentional and timeless.

We were lucky to work on this project located in beautiful Christchurch, collaborating with Radius Building and Boyd Chamberlain Architecture.

The kitchen is the heart of the home and often where we spend more time than any other space.  Our clients wanted a space that felt timeless and functional for family for years to come, and we can’t wait to take you inside!

"This kitchen is functional and practical and will stand the test of time, but the finer details take it to the next level."

Because our clients wanted a minimal palette, we wanted to take the elements up a notch with mixed materials and added character wherever we could.  This kitchen is versatile enough to stand the test of time, but the finer details take it to the next level.

With a minimal material palette of warm whites, black, and stained oak, the kitchen design brings contrasting details while maintaining a calming feeling throughout.  Black metal accents on the stools and pendants complement the black aluminium windows, and the custom hood detail draws the eye up to the beautifully finished ceiling.

"The island is one of my favourite features in this space because the dark tone grounds the kitchen and provides a gorgeous focal point for the space."

Focusing on the mix of materials was important in this space.  The combination of materials in this kitchen really speak for themselves — from the white stone benchtops and cabinets to the black island joinery, cup handles, chrome tapware, dark flooring, painted bar stools and warm wooden shutters.  Every element is intentional.

In the pantry we carried all of the same joinery materials into the space and with lots of drawers and cupboards - our client can food prep, store extra items and keep messy items out of site.

We love that our client embraces colour and wanted to add personality throughout the home through the use of wallpaper.  With the pantry visible when working in the kitchen, we added a splash of colourful wallpaper onto the back wall of the pantry and echoed the colour palette with the cushions in the dining nook.  So pretty!

A small area off the kitchen was the perfect place for a little dining nook area.  With the sweetest surrounding windows, we decided to create a cozy seating space with a round table and woven chairs with custom cushions that ties through to the pantry wallpaper.  The addition of wooden shutters adds personality to the space along with the functionality of light control and privacy.

"This dining nook in the kitchen adds just the right amount of charm to this space and

is the perfect place for our client's to enjoy breakfast or kids to do homework."

Lets not forget the the bar moment…  We added a glass-front hutch on the other side of the dining nook, creating a furniture-like built-in.  Complete with glass doors, wine storage and practical drawers and cupboards, the hutch gave us an opportunity to style some interesting bar ware that means we are always ready for 5 o'clock drinks!
