The Grand Reveal | Building Your First Home: Liv's Journey

Looking at building your first home?

Follow along with our Window Design expert, Liv, as she shows the end result from the exciting journey of building her very first home with her partner Josh.  There are a lot of moving parts to building your first home, and we believe with knowledge there is power!  Liv takes us on a tour of her home since moving in, along with her styling & decor favourites, showing you how you can make your home beautiful on a budget.

Beyond Happy

'Beyond happy' is an understatement of how we are feeling after moving into our new home and seeing how it has all come together. We have really enjoyed settling in over the last few weeks and feel super grateful that we made it in just before the lockdown!  Living here still feels quite surreal and we have to keep pinching ourselves each day to make sure it's not all a dream!

Choosing the furniture, soft furnishings and decor for our home was fairly easy thanks to our similar taste in style and our vision for our first home.  Most of our furniture was purchased during Boxing Day sales - before our house had even begun being built!  This was a little risky but once we set everything up we were really happy with our decisions.

The Entrance

We really wanted the entrance to make an impactful first impression on our guests when they enter our home.  Our gorgeous Selva wallpaper helps to do just that!  Alongside the Axon clad feature wall to the left, our round mirror and our smokey glass feature pendant, our entrance sets the tone for what's to come in the rest of our home and provides a small insight of our personalities.  We would still like to add a tall pot plant in the corner and a couple of coat hanger hooks on the Axon wall, but other than that we are going to keep it simple and clutter free.

Living

We chose a comfy corner sofa from Freedom Furniture that wasn't too high so that when you entered the lounge so that it still felt open and spacious.  The light grey goes perfectly with our new curtains and provides a nice contrast with our dark carpet.  It also came with an ottoman that has storage space inside for our ever-growing collection of board games!  We fell in love with the Wyatt furniture collection due to the unique tones of the Sheesham timber.  We placed a leather occasional chair in the corner to help make the space more conversational and provide some warmth to our colour scheme.  We chose the Gum Leaf print because of its simplicity and to introduce some blue into the space - it was also the perfect size for the wall!  We decided to mount the T.V on the wall to also help the area feel more spacious.  We also have a couple of lamps with the same smokey glass to tie in with the entrance and kitchen pendants.

Kitchen

As you enter the kitchen, the main feature is our smokey glass pendants, mounted to the side of our island bench for something a little different.  Our herringbone tile splashback provides a soft pop of blue which we have paired with charcoal grey and light oak cabinetry, alongside our sexy black fridge which is also quite a feature!  We have found the layout of our kitchen works really well for us and having the walk in pantry is great!  We extended the floor space between the island bench and the outer wall so that our living area feels more open and spacious - it's also a good space for guests to mingle at dinner parties!

Dining

Our dining table is also from the Wyatt collection to tie in with our lounge furniture.  We like the contrast of the darker wood with our light flooring and kitchen cabinetry colours.  We were initially a little worried about the table fitting in the dining area as there's not a lot of room, but luckily it fit perfectly!  Our beautiful double track curtains add a lovely relaxed feel to the space and in summer we can open the sliding door to create an indoor and outdoor dining/entertainment area.

Office & Bedroom

We really love our feature wall colours in the office and our Master bedroom.  Both colours tone really nicely together and the green in our bedroom pulls through the green wallpaper from our entrance.  Our office has been functioning really well as my art space and Josh's workspace when he works from home.  The Honeycomb blind has been working really well and looks sleek and smart.  We still have quite a way to go in our bedroom... We are hoping to purchase a new bed soon, alongside some bedside tables (the fact that they don't match at the moment drives me crazy!)

We would also like to get a headboard to compliment our green feature wall.  Again, our double track curtains work super well in our bedroom.  I am obsessed with the stunning Origami fabric and having the sheer curtain is great for privacy from our neighbours.

Bathroom & Ensuite

We kept our bathroom and ensuite fairly simple as we decided to spend our money elsewhere in the home.  Both are really light and and bright during the day thanks to the large windows and the white textured tiles match our kitchen splash back to provide some flow throughout the home.  Our round back lit mirrors are the main feature in both the bathroom and ensuite.  They are super cool because you can brighten and dim the light which also changes colour!  I plan to eventually add some fun artwork and a couple plants for a pop of green.

Future projects include:

- Turning our 'fun' cupboard next to the kitchen into a cocktail bar with some funky wallpaper, strip lighting and maybe some mirrors down the sides!

- Adding some shelving, cupboards and a bench top to our laundry.  I have got my eyes on a cute wallpaper for in here too...

- Adding some shelving and built-in drawers to our walk in wardrobe.

- Making some floating shelves to have on the wall opposite our bed - and maybe some for the office too.

We are SOOOO in love with our new home, and really enjoy living in Ravenswood.  Thank you for following our exciting journey with us. We can't wait to build again in the future!

With love,
Liv & Josh xx
